About Mike

Mike Williams is Head of the Transatlantic Security Programme at the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies in London. RUSI is the oldest defence research in the world, founded in 1831 by the Duke of Wellington. Mike is a real New England Yankee who hails from the great state of Connecticut (and let me apologize right now for fellow Nutmeger Ann Coulter).

He holds a PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a MA with Distinction in European Studies from the Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany. Mike completed a Honors BA with Distinction in International Relations at the University of Delaware in Newark, Delaware (Go Blue Hens!). 

In addition to written analysis for numerous RUSI publications, he has offered commentary in the Financial Times, The Washington Post, The Washington Times, The Economist, The Guardian, The International Herald Tribune, the Cape Cod Times and the Vineyard Gazette. Mike also provides regular analysis on international politics for CNN International, the BBC, Sky News, CNBC Arabia, CNBC Europe, Al Jazeera and Al Jazeera International.

He is the author of From Kosovo to Khandhar: The Evolution of An Alliance (Routledge 2008) and On Mars and Venus: Strategic Culture and US-European Relations (LIT 2006). He is co-editor of Power in World Politics (Routledge 2007). In 2008 he is preparing a manuscript on NATO in Afghanistan for Hurst & Co to be published in 2009.

Mike has lived in the USA, Russia, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

    Didnt take me long to find the blog, reading through the FT I found some comments of yours and ended up here. Good stuff, I’ll make sure to visit it regularly and post some comments of my own too. I hope you had a relaxing break, wish you lots of success in 2007! We must discuss your return to Holloway this term!

    I managed to get hold of the Peter Beinart book, but I couldnt find ‘Power in World Politics’ yet, I assume it’s not out yet.
